The Union Government has released Rs. 2 crore for the project A writer to be appointed as chairman of the Dr. B.R. Bendre National Memorial Trust HUBLI: B.R. Jayaramaraje Urs, Secretary, Departments of Kannada and Culture, and Information, has said that the process of setting up information hubs in the State Information Centres (SICs) in all districts would begin shortly. Speaking to presspersons after visiting Gangubai Hangal at a private hospital here on Saturday, Mr. Urs said that the Centre had already released Rs. 2 crore for the project. The information hubs would provide information on the social, cultural and geographical aspects of the State, he said. They would also provide information regarding government schemes. Replying to questions on a variety of subjects related to his departments, Mr. Urs said that the new director of Rangayana, Dharwad, would be responsible for the development of the unit. He also mentioned that a Makkala Rangayana was in the pipeline. Steps were being taken to appoint a writer as the chairman of the Dr. B.R. Bendre National Memorial Trust in the wake the former chairman M.M. Kalburgi’s resignation, Mr.Urs said. He said that the Janapada Jatre would continue in its present format, and steps would be taken to ensure proper maintenance of the ranga mandiras.Mr. Jayaramaraje Urs also clarified that recruitment process for the eight vacant posts of Assistant Director in the Information Department had already begun. Pampa monumentOn the setting up of a monument dedicated to “Aadikavi” Pampa at Annigeri, Director of Kannada and Culture Manu Baligar said that the blueprint for the monument had been prepared and would be submitted to the Deputy Commissioner shortly.
