Film: Current (Telugu) Cast: Sushant, Sneha Ullal Direction: Surya Pratap Sushant has no goals in life and when he bumps into Sneha he woos her till she falls for him. When she wants to take him home to meet her dad, he is indifferent. The title here means that the lead pair despite their blow-hot-blow-cold relationship can feel an ‘undercurrent’ of love but sadly the audience can sense it only in the beginning and the end. The first half of the film is a drag, the secon d part is complicated and knotty and the director doesn’t give the audience a single reason as to why they should sit and watch an overstretched story in which the hero and the heroine can’t decide whether they are in love or out of love. Tanikella Bharani is given a confused role as well. It is pathetic that heroes are given roles that have zilch value and are glorified to such an extent that artistes who play parents are made to look like dummies. The film could have helped Sushant if the script was simpler, his work is far more flexible but the debut movie was better. Sneha Ullal lacks the fire and spark. Brahmanandam’s comedy falls flat and a few of the songs are good. Technically it’s passable. Bad dialogues, routine screenplay and inept direction mar ‘Current’. Y. SUNITA CHOWDHARY
