Sabita for law to punish acid attack perpetrators
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: Expressing concern over the growing acid attacks on women, Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy said here on Friday that pressure would be brought on the Centre to enact a law to punish perpetrators of such attacks. She said that the State government would also write to the Union Home Minister about the necessity to have such legislation in place, she said. Ms. Sabita, who held a review meeting with senior police officials earlier in the wake of two cases of acid attacks in Guntur district, ordered the Superintendent of Police to arrest the accused immediately.
The police should immediately respond to the complaints to pre-empt such incidents, she said. Any slackness on part of the police would not be tolerated, she said.
About the alleged sexual assault on a nursing student at Nidadavole in West Godavari, MLC Ganga Bhavani submitted a representation to the Home Minister.
