Plea to redraw GHMC limits

HYDERABAD: BJP leaders G. Kishan Reddy and N. Ramchander Rao have demanded that the boundaries of municipal divisions of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation be redrawn and alleged that they have been demarcated to benefit Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen in the coming elections.

At a press conference here on Friday, they said that 60 of the 150 divisions were in old city and wanted the divisions to be redrawn on the basis of the existing voter list.

They said, for instance, Phoolbagh and Chandrayangutta had 12,000 voters each while Motinagar and Gachchibowli had more than 80,000 voters each.

The average voter strength was 25,000 in each of the 60 divisions in old city and it was around 45,000 in the rest. This would enable MIM to win more seats, they contended.

They also took exception to the statement of Endowments Minister Gade Venkata Reddy that non-Hindus could work in Hindu temples and demanded him to apologise for hurting sentiments of people.
