HYDERABAD: Community lunch, poor feeding and visits of Congress leaders to dalitwadas marked the 39th birthday celebrations of AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Friday. Legislative Council Chairman A. Chakrapani, Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar and Sanatnagar MLA Marri Sashidhar Reddy, along with Congress functionaries, participated in the celebrations at Gandhi Bhavan. Dr. Chakrapani cut a cake in the presence of schoolchildren. Later, an elocution competition was organised in which over 200 schoolchildren participated. Rajya Sabha member V. Hanumantha Rao and his followers visited Bharatnagar Colony in Amberpet constituency where they had community lunch with the SC families. Earlier, the party cadres cleaned the colony roads. Elsewhere, Higher Education Minister D. Sridhar Babu was the chief guest at a function organised by the NSUI activists in Secunderabad. He distributed textbooks to students in the presence of party MLA Jayasudha. Sarees distributedAPCC linguistic minority cell Chairman Ashok Singh and others distributed saris and dhotis to poor people at Basheerbagh. The NSUI State president Ch. Vamsi Chand Reddy and others organised a programme at Government High School behind Gandhi Bhavan on the occasion. The AP Youth Congress cadres and members of Jagan Yuva Sena distributed fruits and organised ‘annadanam’ for the poor in different parts of the city. Secunderabad Member of Parliament M. Anjan Kumar Yadav distributed textbooks at Bagh Amberpet Government High School, blankets to poor people at A.G. Colony Cross Roads and fruits to patients at ESI Hospital, Sanatnagar.
