Animal Husbandry official in ACB net

HYDERABAD: Officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday ‘caught’ G. Pedda Venkata Swamy, Assistant Director of Animal Husbandry, Guntakal, in Anantapur district, while he was accepting a bribe of Rs.2,000 from a complainant for doing an official favour.

A press release issued by ACB here said Swamy demanded the amount for forwarding to the bank the insurance claim pertaining to the death of a buffalo. The officials recovered the cash. He is being produced before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases, Hyderabad.

Convicted

Visakhapatnam Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases convicted Y. Prasada Rao, Gurla Mandal Revenue Officer, in Vizianagaram district, and sentenced him to six months rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs.500. In default of payment of fine, he is to undergo a month’s simple imprisonment under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The judge also sentenced him to an year’s rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs.1,000. In default of payment of fine he is to suffer two-month simple imprisonment for the offence under Section 13 (2) read with 13(1) (D) of the Act. Rao was trapped on May 8, 2001, after accepting a bribe of Rs.800 for attesting the photographs of the complainant’s pattedar passbooks and title deeds and of two others.

Meanwhile, the Government has dismissed from service L. Ashok, former Kowdipally Mandal Revenue Inspector, in Medak district, following his conviction in a trap case by the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases, Hyderabad. He was trapped on February 8, 2002, after accepting a bribe of Rs.10,000 for making entries in ROR of land particulars of the complainant and his brothers.
