NCW team to visit Mumbai in Shiney case

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: A team of the National Commission for Women (NCW) is visiting Mumbai on Friday to speak to the domestic help who has been allegedly raped by Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja, and see what can be done to help her.

The three-member team, led by NCW Chief Girija Vyas, will also talk to police and the Maharashtra administration to assess the protection given to the victim. The other members are Yasmin Abrar of the NCW and Yogesh Mehta, NCW’s law officer.

“This is a high profile case. The victim is in shock. We will see what kind of protection has been provided to her and the rehabilitation measures,” Ms. Vyas said. She said the Commission had prepared a bill for protection of women against sexual harassment at workplace. It will cover domestic helps also.

Judicial custody till July 2

Mumbai Staff Reporter writes:

Meanwhile, Mr. Ahuja was remanded to judicial custody by a Mumbai court till July 2.

His lawyer Shrikant Shivade said the police had asked for further police custody on the ground that they were awaiting lab results and would need to investigate further. They also said the actor was not cooperating in the investigation.
