All together 25 office-bearers face action Most Ministers, MLAs off to New Delhi DEHRA DUN: In fast-moving political developments sparked by former Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshiyary’s resignation from the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, the Uttarakhand unit of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party here on Thursday suspended 25 office-bearers, most of them Koshiyary loyalists, from the party’s primary membership. They included Gajraj Singh Bisht, State president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha; Rajendra Singh Rawat, Nagar Palika president of Pithoragarh; and Balwant Kanyal, Block Pramukh of Kotabagh in Naini Tal district. Meanwhile, most Ministers and MLAs have rushed to New Delhi hinting that something serious was in the making there. Announcing the decision to suspend the office-bearers, party general secretary Tirath Singh Rawat said at the BJP headquarters here that the action had been taken by the State BJP president Bachi Singh Rawat after seeing media reports that these office-bearers had threatened to resign (in support of Mr. Koshiyary). Mr. Bachi Singh Rawat had taken the decision on the basis of the recent directives of party president Rajnath Singh that no party man will air internal grievances in the media. The suspended office-bearers have been asked to reply to the show-cause notices within a week. Meanwhile, all development activity seems to be at a standstill with bureaucrats busy guessing what the result of the fresh controversy might be.
