HYDERABAD: Several senior Congress leaders facing charges of indulging in anti-party activities in the elections may get a reprieve in the absence of a Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) in the APCC. It is over three years since the term of the DAC headed by Singam Basavapunnaiah, MLC, ended. Since then, the party has not re-constituted the panel that looks into complaints against party leaders, including Ministers, MPs and MLAs. The DAC is empowered to conduct an enquiry into complaints against leaders of all levels and recommend action. In case of Ministers and MPs, its report is forwarded to the AICC for approval. Instead, a five-member screening and enquiry committee headed by former Minister Kantethi Satynarayana Raju was constituted by the APCC to look into election-related complaints against the party men. The panel was flooded with close to 300 complaints of anti-party activitiesagainst leaders at all . It found prima facie evidence against certain leaders and advised them to quit the party and elected posts before disciplinary action was initiated. But there is scepticism about the action likely to be taken by the panelThe APCC president may end up taking action against leaders at the mandal, district and APCC level and elected representatives of the local bodies. There is also a feeling that action, if any, might be delayed because of the upcoming municipal elections.
