All set for global tribal film feast

ALL SET: Tribal artistes getting ready for the International Film Festival on Tribal Art and Culture in Bhopal on Thursday.

BHOPAL: Vivid hues of tribal art, life and culture from all over the world will find expression on the silver screen as the International Festival of Films on Tribal Art and Culture begins here this Friday.

The three-day festival will showcase 60 films and documentaries from over 40 countries including India, Argentina, New Zealand, the US, Romania, Burkina Faso, Kazakhstan, Czech Republic, Zibuti, Nigeria and Egypt among others.

“The first edition of the festival was organised in Indore, which is a Bhil tribal belt, while this time round it is being organised in Bhopal, which is a Gond belt; it used to be the capital of Gondwana,” says Shriram Tiwari, Director, State Department of Culture. “The idea is to organise the festival in the tribal belts of the State in order to represent and promote the various strands of tribal cultures that exist in these belts,” he explains.

The festival, being organised by the Madhya Pradesh Tribal Affairs Ministry and its creative division, Vanya, in collaboration with Indian Infotainment Media Corporation, will be inaugurated on Friday at Ravindra Bhavan. The inaugural ceremony will be presided over by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan while Union Tribal Affairs Minister Kantilal Bhuriya will be the chief guest. State Tribal and Schedule Castes Welfare Minister Jagannath Singh and Cultural Affairs Minister Laxmikant Sharma will also be present.

Ambassadors and diplomats from 12 countries along with film and theatre personalities like Basu Chatterjee, Jagmohan Mundhra, Ashutosh Rana and Sadhu Meher will be in the city for the festival. The show will end on Sunday with an award ceremony and the State’s Tantia Bhil award. Entry to the films and exhibitions is free of cost for everyone.
