Forum protests move to remove teachers under IEDS

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Members of the Forum for Disabled Children and their Parents of Karnataka formed a human chain in front of Banappa Park here on Wednesday to protest the Government’s decision to remove teachers appointed under the Integrated Education for Disabled (IED) Scheme.

Somappa Ayathi, president of the teachers’ association, said: “Children are not going to schools as the resource teachers are not reporting for duty. The Government must take them back.”

Other demands include taking the responsibility of paying salaries to teachers under the Inclusive Education for Disabled Secondary Stage (IEDSS) and Integrated Education for Disabled Child schemes. These teachers are paid salaries by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and this should go.

“We want to spread awareness on this issue, and want people to know that these committed teachers, who are serving the community in such a big way are being neglected,” a representative said.
