Pleasing sight: Attempts are being made to provide fish with an environment inside the aquarium that is identical to their natural surroundings.
BANGALORE: An aquarium is no longer just about putting two fish in a bowl. Attempts are being made to provide fish with an environment inside the aquarium that is identical to their natural surroundings.
Indian Aquarium Hobbyists is a group of aquarium enthusiasts who have set out to share their knowledge and bring others into the fold. They have organised their third annual convention, Aquatica, on July 5 in the city. Their online portal, www.indianaquariumhobbyists.com, has recently registered 15 million hits.
Madan Subramaniam, chief editor of the portal, said: “The highlight of the event is a talk and live demonstration by Takashi Amano, a world renowned nature photographer and aquascapist. An aquascapist creates a landscape within an aquarium that is a realistic piece of nature. In this manner, fish remain more healthy and it is a pleasing sight in the house.” He added that precision equipment manufactured by Aqua Design Amano, a Japanese company, helps simplify the process to a great extent for those who are novices.
Registration for the convention may be done at the website www.amanoinindia.com.
