BANGALORE: K.R. Basavarajachar Kabbur’s work of art is a marvel in miniature. His eight-inch chalk sculpture, with 72 links, has entered the Limca Book of Records.
Mr. Kabbur, who has completed a Diploma in Fine Arts from Nirmala School of Arts, Hassan, and Sri Kalanikethan School of Arts Mysore, made his first attempt at entering the record book in 2007 with 56 links.
He then set the target of making 72 links. He has now set his eyes on entering the Guinness Book of World Records.
Mr. Kabbur said that he was guided by noted artiste B.S. Desai. “I have used a needle and blade to refine the chalk links,” he said.
He said that he took a full 24 hours to complete the work. It took six months of practice to perfect the art.
He said that it is a delicate work and he does not allow people to touch it. “Just as a small misunderstanding in relationship can spoil everything, even a small drop of water can spoil this in seconds,” he said.
My future plan is to make 24 tirthankaras and 100 links each in an ordinary chalk piece.
He has appealed to the Government to open an art gallery in Hassan district so that it would help artists display their works in district centres.
