THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A five-day State-wide training programme in informatics for college teachers is among a clutch of orientation programmes being planned by the Kerala State Higher Education Council (HEC) in connection with the introduction of the restructured degree courses in the State’s universities. The training programme in informatics will be organised in collaboration with the Institute of Human Resource Development in its centres spread across the State. Over three months, 1,000 teachers will receive training in the theory and application of informatics. This was decided at a meeting of the executive council of the HEC here on Tuesday. In July, the HEC will organise a series of two-day orientation programmes for Boards of Studies in the ‘Methodology Courses’ that form part of the restructured graduate courses. Classes will be organised in Methodology and Perspectives of Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences and Business Studies. The classes will be led by experts of national repute. Further, the HEC will fund the Boards of Studies for organising orientation programmes on the restructured courses. Such programmes should have sessions on the academic structure of the restructured programme, methodology courses and the process of evaluation. Boards of English and of other languages can hold separate orientation programmes for language and core courses. Each Board of Study will be given a maximum of Rs.25,000 for organising these programmes. Individual departments will be given Rs.5,000 each for organising subject-wise orientation programmes (one-day) on the restructured courses. Such programmes also will have sessions on the academic structure of the restructured courses, on the methodology courses and on the process of evaluation. Teachers and students of that department will attend the programme. Members of the faculty and students from neighbouring colleges also may be allowed to attend it. Details can be had from the HEC’s web site: www.kshec.kerala.gov.in
