Setty to make way for Somanna

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Minister for Housing and Muzrai S.N. Krishnaiah Setty will resign from the Yeddyurappa Cabinet on Wednesday to pave way for the former Minister V. Somanna to be inducted into the Ministry. Mr. Somanna recently quit the Congress to join the BJP.

Mr. Setty said he had decided to resign from the Cabinet in view of the indications of an imminent reshuffle. “I have not received any instructions from the Chief Minister to quit. I am resigning to strengthen the Chief Minister’s hands,” Mr. Setty told presspersons here on Tuesday before leaving for Tirupati. On his return, he will submit his resignation letter, he said.

Mr. Setty, who represents Malur Assembly Constituency in Kolar district, was reported to be under police surveillance recently. However, he subsequently denied the reports and claimed that it was only “accidental” that a policeman in plainclothes was taking his photographs when he was on an inspection tour of a temple in Bangalore.
