Panel indicts former Mumbai police chief
Staff Reporter
Mumbai: The former Mumbai Police Commissioner, Hasan Gafoor, did not display enough initiative and fell short on vision and leadership qualities in the face of the November 26, 2008, terror strikes in Mumbai, states the Ram Pradhan Committee probe report.
Mr. Gafoor was the Commissioner during 26/11.
The government did not table the report, but its excerpts are included in the Action Taken Report tabled in the State Legislature on Tuesday. In the ATR, Mr. Gafoor is the only officer among the top brass, to be criticised squarely for his role.
“During the operation, he [Gafoor] waited at a place near Trident hotel. The absence of a clear, unified mobilisation created a feeling among the people that the police were incompetent in handling the situation,” the report says.
