For power sector reforms: Documents of the agreement being exchanged in the presence of Puducherry Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam in Puducherry on Monday. PUDUCHERRY: The Electricity Department, Government of Puducherry has entered into an agreement with KPMG Advisory Services Private Limited, Chennai to come up with a roadmap for converting the department into a corporate body. The agreement was signed on Monday in the presence of Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam. KPMG Advisory Services Private Limited, Chennai have been appointed as consultants for the power sector reforms and to draw the roadmap for converting the Electricity Department into a corporate body, according to a press release. The work would be completed in four months at a total cost of nearly Rs. 35.39 lakh. In the reply to budgetary demands for 2008-2009, the Minister for Power, Government of Puduchery had said that the Electricity Department would be converted into a corporation soon, the release said. The Electricity Act, 2003 provided an enabling framework for accelerated and more efficient development of the power sector in an independent manner. This required restructuring of the existing system. Steps were on to transform the Electricity Department into a self-sustaining and profit making body to improve the level of consumer satisfaction by providing uninterrupted and quality power at affordable rates, added the release. Officials of the Electricity Department and representatives of KPMG Advisory Services Private Limited were present on the occasion.
