Maiden men’s title for Rahul

IRINJALAKUDA: Rahul Binu Mathew, the promising 15-year-old from the Alappuzha YMCA TT Academy, won his maiden men’s title in the State table tennis circuit at the Don Bosco Open ranking tournament here on Sunday evening.

Rahul bounced back after losing the first game and defeated Thiruvananthapuram’s M. Harikrishnan 4-2 at the Don Bosco indoor stadium.

State champion Adheena K. Latheef staved off a strong challenge from Alappuzha’s Shikha Jacob and won the women’s title.

The Alappuzha YMCA Academy players dominated the tournament, the State table tennis season-opener, winning seven of the 12 singles title at stake.
