NEW DELHI: Grandmaster K. Humpy opened her campaign in the Ruy Lopez memorial tournament in Zafra, Spain, with a comfortable 22-move draw against Sweden’s Pia Cramling on Saturday. Eight players, headed by British GM Michael Adams form the field in this invitational seven-round tournament. In the biggest upset of the competition, local challenger David Larino Neito, the lone IM in the field, brought down Adams in 40 moves. In the only other decisive game of the day, second-seeded Bulgarian Ivan Cheparinov defeated third-seeded Italian Fabiano Caruana, also in 40 moves. The results: First round: Pia Cramling (Swe) drew with K. Humpy; David Larino Nieto (Esp) bt Michael Adams (Eng); Ivan Cheparinov (Bul) bt Fabiano Caruana (Ita); Manuel Perez Candelario (Esp) drew with Julio Granda Zuniga (Per).
