Bill to enable single-window clearance of industrial projects will be introduced Additional 2,100 MW to be available by 2010-2011 CHENNAI: A Bill to enable single-window clearance of industrial projects will be introduced in the coming Assembly session, Deputy Chief Minister M. K. Stalin reiterated on Saturday. The government had announced this during the demand for grants for the Department of Industries in the House last year; it would facilitate quicker clearances. Mr Stalin was addressing captains of industry and commerce for the first time after assuming the Industry portfolio. He outlined a number of projects and schemes to support segments of industry. “The government’s concern does not end with the formulation and commissioning of industrial projects. It wants to support continued activities of the projects.” The government was taking vigorous steps to free the State from power cuts, the Deputy Chief Minister said. The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board was making efforts, to meet immediate requirements, to purchase 500 MW of power after floating bids, apart from purchasing 135 MW from captive power plants. By 2010-2011, an additional 2,100 MW would be available through a host of projects including the Kudangulam atomic power project, the Vallur thermal power project jointly promoted by the National Thermal Power Corporation and the TNEB, and the expansion of the North Chennai thermal power project. Steps were on to get 1,000 MW more this year. In the last three years the present government had signed 22 memoranda of understanding. There were eight other projects that were given structured packages of assistance. These 30 projects entailed an investment of Rs. 38,700 crore. It generated 2,07,000 jobs. He said the State government had decided to bear 15 per cent of the project cost, subject to a maximum of Rs. 25 crore, for the six common effluent treatment plants for tannery units in the State. The government got the Centre to agree to meet 50 per cent of the cost. It had decided to allot 15 acres near Chennai for a training centre on leather technology and design to be established by the Footwear Design and Development Institute of the Central government. M.F. Farooqui, Principal Secretary (Industries) and K. Deenabandu, Secretary to Deputy Chief Minister, were present.
