PUDUCHERRY: A 33-year-old man was brutally murdered by a gang to usurp the property he had been taking care of for several years. The victim, Sundhar, was attacked with sharp weapons on the head while he was returning home from his automobile workshop on Monday night. He died on the spot, Superintendent of Police (North) N.T. Sivadasan said. The victim’s family was taking care of a huge house built during the French period on Montheres Street. The owner of the house, Emile Appavu, a French national, had appointed Sundhar’s father in-law Devianathan as the caretaker decades ago. Appavu and Devianthan died recently. The property was then managed by Sundhar and members of his family. Recently, Kannabiran, staying on the same street, created power of attorney in his name to sell the property. He allegedly got signature from six descendents of Appavu and tired to sell the property. Last Sunday, a gang sent by Kannabiran barged into the house and asked Sundhar and his relatives to vacate, Mr. Sivadasan said. By the time a police team arrived on the spot, the gang had fled. Mr. Sivadasan told The Hindu that the police had registered a case against Kannabiran and the gang . The same gang was involved in the murder. Kannabiran had already surrendered before a local court here, Mr. Sivadasan said, adding that the gang members would be arrested shortly.
