COLOMBO: M.S. Prof. Swaminathan, who is scheduled to make a courtesy call on Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Tuesday, told The Hindu: “I would make use of the opportunity of my stay here for an in-depth study of livelihood aspects of war-affected people in crops and animal husbandry, dairy and cattle farming and fisheries. The idea is to see how these people could be rehabilitated as quickly as possible in the farming and fisheries sectors and help build research, science and technology and training institutes back up in the north.” To address meetOn Tuesday, he would deliver the keynote address at a national conference on Water, Food Security and Climate Change in Sri Lanka organised by the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) on the theme, “Building Sustainable Water Security Systems.”
