It will be formed at Fort Kochi, Thoppumpady and Kannamali in the city KOCHI: The State Government has issued orders to form the district alert committee, with district collector as chairperson, to prevent terrorist attacks and illegal activities along the coastal zone. The committees will be formed around coastal police stations and with active participation of fisherfolk. Regional alert committees and sub-committees will also be formed under the district-level committee. Committees will be formed at Fort Kochi, Thoppumpady and Kannamali in City Police limits and at Njarakkal and Munambam in rural district. The security along the 590-km-long coastal line of the State is being enhanced by Kerala Police, Coast Guard and Navy to check the infiltration of terrorists from the sea and prevent other illegal activities. Coastal alert committees were formed at 76 coastal police stations. City Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham and Superintendent of Police (Ernakulam Rural) P. Vijayan are conveners of the district alert committee, The panel will have C.M. Dinesh Mani, V.K. Ebrahim Kunju and M.K. Purushothaman, MLAs, and District Panchayat president P.S. Shyla as members. Other members of the committee are district information officer, fisheries deputy director, harbour engineering department superintendenting engineer, the Port Trust deputy conservator, the Matsyafed district officer, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ernakulam Special Branch and five representatives of fishermen.
