Finance Minister asks entrepreneurs to venture into new areas. KOCHI: The State government will introduce awards for best tax payers and best performing entrepreneurs in association with the Department of Industries, Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has said. He was addressing a meeting organised by the Dhanam publications here on Saturday. A major challenge facing the State is to bring up new entrepreneurs who can exploit the plus points of the State. He called upon entrepreneurs to venture into new areas rather than holding on to traditional business. Addressing the gathering, Union Minister of State for Agriculture K.V. Thomas said that the new UPA government was committed to striving for the State’s development and solving problems of the people in close cooperation with the State government. George Paulose, president of AMES International Inc, Washington, reminded the business community that they should not forget social commitment in their pursuit for business success. Dr. Isaac presented the Dhanam Businessman of the year 2008 award to V.K. Mathews, Founder Chairman and CEO, IBS Software services. Architects of Kerala’s top 20 product brands selected through a survey were also presented with awards on the occasion. Ramachandran, Associate Dean (academic programmes) Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, Parimal Merchant, Chairperson, Centre for Family Managed Business, SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai, addressed a workshop on ‘managing family business successfully,’ organised as part of the event. Kurian Abraham, head of the Dhanam group of publications, welcomed the gathering and John S Powath, Executive Director of the group, proposed a vote of thanks.
