Anish downs Akshit, advances

HYDERABAD: Y. Anish defeated Akshit Naresh 6-1 in the boys under-14 first round of the 4th Mini and sub-junior tennis tournament organised by Transworld Sports Foundation at Indira Park here on Saturday.

St. John’s wins

St. John’s High School recorded a seven-wicket win over St. Patrick’s High School in the under-13 final of the Paradise Persis Gold Cup sub-juniors cricket tournament here.

The scores: Finals:

Under-13: St. Patrick’s HS 125 for six (Karthik 51) lost to St. John’s HS 126 for three (Yashwanth 38, Charan 35).

Under-11: St. Joseph’s HS 108 for eight (Bharath Teja 38, Sohail four for 24) lost to St. Andrews HS 109 for four (Sohail 36, Vikas 31).

A-1 hockey league

Hyderabad Hockey Association will organise A-1 Division league championship from June 18, according to a press release here.

All teams are to register or renew their players’ identity cards before the start of the event. An umpires clinic will also be conducted on June 9 at Begumpet Police Stadium from 5. 30 pm. All umpires are instructed to attend it without fail.

HCA to recruit umpires

Hyderabad Cricket Association will recruit new umpires to officiate in the various league cricket matches at different venues in the city and also in district headquarters, according to a press release.

Those interested can undergo training by attending the umpiring classes on Saturdays from 6.00 pm at Gymkhana Grounds.

After being selected by the panel, they may register themselves at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium (Uppal). For details contact Phone No. 2790 5676.

Banu for National camp

Nikhat Banu of Andhra Pradesh has been picked for the Indian camp at Indore, Madhya Pradesh, that will continue until June 25, according to S.M. Sultan, Associate Vice-President, Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI).

The camp is in preparation for the Asian junior championships at Jaipur from July 22 to 26 and for the senior Asian championships at Lucknow from November 22 to 28. Nikhat, a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya (Picket) has been selected in the junior (under-17) girls’ category.
