KPCC to accord reception to MPs

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) will give a reception to the party’s 13 victorious MPs and Central Ministers at its leadership meeting here next Sunday.

Of the 13 party MPs, five are KPCC office-bearers. Mullapally Ramachandran and N. Peethambara Kurup are vice-presidents, while M.K. Raghavan, K. Sudhakaran and M.I. Shanavas are general secretaries.

P.T. Thomas, currently holds the post of Idukki district Congress president and K.V. Thomas holds the post of president of Matsya Thozhilali Congress. The five Congress Ministers would also be honoured, as this is the first time that Kerala has a large contingent in the Union Council of Ministers.

The leadership meeting is expected to evaluate the outcome of the Lok Sabha elections. The outcome has proved quite satisfactory, though there have been complaints against party leaders in some districts of having worked against the interests of the candidates.

The KPCC executive has already appointed a panel, headed by Thennala Balakrishna Pillai, to study the reasons for the party’s poor show in the four seats in which it was defeated and the Kozhikode seat which was won by Mr. Raghavan by a slender margin.

The meeting is being held in the backdrop of a possible minor revamp in the KPCC as a result of the vacancies that are expected to arise after the election of three office-bearers to the Lok Sabha. All India Congress Committee general secretary Moshina Kidwai dropped broad hints about such a revamp process being initiated soon.
