Bangalore: It had to happen sooner than later. Athletes who brought laurels to Karnataka and India in the past two decades have come together to form the Bangalore Urban District Athletic Association (BUDAA), a much delayed development for athletes and clubs that was directly under the wings of the Karnataka Athletic Association (KAA). On Saturday, BUDAA, under the chairmanship of Mr. Chenraj Jain, educationist and chairman of Jain Group of Institutions (JGI), was officially launched. “Channelising club participation and spotting and promoting talent in schools and colleges are our main objectives,” said Ashwini Nachappa, the president of the new district body, which also boasts of well known names like Reeth Abraham, M.K. Asha, Babu Kumar, Arjun Devaiah, S.D. Eashan and Babu Shetty. B. Sunil Kumar is the general secretary. “We have a few initiatives in place and will like to provide a platform for the wonderful talent that is available in our country. Jain Group has two grounds with international standard infrastructure — one at the JIRS campus on Kanakapura Road and the other that has recently come up near Hebbal — and these facilities too can be provided for the potential talent,” said Mr. Jain. The BUDAA will conduct the State-junior championship either at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium or at the Jayanagar Corporation Stadium from July 17 to 19. The BUDAA office-bearers: Chairman: Chenraj Jain; President: Ashwini Nachappa; Senior Vice-President: Babu Shetty; Vice-Presidents: Reeth Abraham, M.K. Asha, Babu Kumar, Rakesh Shetty, S.D. Eashan and Arjun Devaiah; Associate Vice-Presidents: C. Maheshwaran and Pramila Aiyappa; General Secretary: B. Sunil Kumar. Senior Joint Secretary: Ramesh; Joint Secretaries: M.S. Vijay, C.P. Poonacha and Lokesh; Treasurer: U.V. Shankar; EC members: C.K. Poonacha, Nanjunda Reddy, Shankar, Fahim Yates, Harinath and Martin Rajendra.
