KOLKATA: World champion Korea stopped India from winning the third consecutive gold medal in the men’s recurve team championship of the World Cup archery stage III meet at Antalya on Saturday. Korea won the final 225-221. The Indian women’s recurve team won the bronze medal play-off against Japan 211-201. The Indian trio of Rahul Banerjee, Mangal Singh Champia and Jayanta Talukdar failed to match the Koreans’ shooting ability. The Indians strayed beyond the yellow circle and hit two 8s and two 7s to lose by four points. The Koreans’ arrows were bunched together in the yellow circles comprising 10 and 9 points and only one arrow was outside it for an 8. The first end of six arrows fetched Korea 57 points as against India’s 56. In the second end Korea earned 58 from six arrows for a total of 115 and India again got 56 to end the halfway mark at 112. Korea scored 56 and 54 in the next two ends to reach 225 while India could manage only 54 and 55 in the last two ends to end with 221. Dola Banerjee, L. Bombayla Devi and Rimil Biruly combined well to stay in lead throughout to emerge a runaway winner against Japan. On Sunday, the final day, three Indians, Kapil, Rimil and Talukdar, will be seen in action in the quarterfinals of the recurve division. — Special Correspondent
