NEW DELHI: BJP Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Javadekar took a personal initiative on Friday — World Environment Day — by presenting saplings to prominent party leaders and asking them to take some simple steps to help save the Earth. Farooq Abdullah (National Conference), Brinda Karat (Communist Party of India-Marxist), Sharad Yadav (Janata Dal-United), film-maker Shyam Benegal, Tariq Anwar (Nationalist Congress Party) and many others were pleasantly surprised when Mr. Javadekar walked up to them in the corridors of the Parliament House and in the Central Hall to offer them saplings of pepromia and syngonium with the plea that these should be planted. The offer of a sapling was also a friendly gesture towards leaders of parties who are political rivals of the BJP.
