Show cause notice to medical colleges

CHENNAI: The Directorate of Medical Education has sent show cause notices to Sri Ramachandra University (SRU) and Shree Balaji Medical College, based on newspaper reports that the colleges were charging capitation fees for MBBS courses.

S.Vinayagam, Director of Medical Education, said the colleges had been asked to send their replies immediately. However, no reply had come in as of late Friday evening. “We will wait for a week and then contact them again. Further action depends on their reply. If they have indeed violated the government order by charging capitation fees, then they can even be de-affiliated,” he said. — Special Correspondent
