Owner of Kuber deposes

Staff Reporter

Mumbai: The owner of Kuber, the trawler the Mumbai attackers used, deposed before the special sessions court on Friday.

Porbunder-based Vinod Babulal Masani testified that his trawler had left the Porbunder coast on November 14, 2008. Another boat of his, Maa, set sail along with Kuber. The two boats later separated due to choppy seas. And, while Maa returned on November 25, 2008, Kuber did not.

Therefore, Mr. Masani contacted the National Fishing Forum in Porbunder and was put in touch with the Mumbai Coast Guard. He was told to come to Mumbai.

The owner told the court that on December 2, 2008, he came to the Mumbai Crime Branch office with the assistance of the Porbunder police. He later identified his boat.

Mr. Masani testified that there were six persons on Kuber. Its navigator Amarsinh Solanki had been accompanied by five sailors. Solanki’s throat was slit. The others were removed to the Pakistani boat Al Husseini when the Kuber was hijacked and killed there, Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam told The Hindu.
