PUDUKOTTAI: Officials should take immediate action for the prompt and expeditious distribution of family cards to fresh applicants and simultaneously, a strict vigil should be kept on bogus cards, Secretary to Government, Food Supply and Consumer Welfare, K. Shanmugam, said. Addressing officials of the Revenue and Cooperative Departments besides Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation of Madurai, Pudukottai, Sivaganga and Thanjavur here on Friday, Mr. Shanmugam said that the officials should take immediate action for sanctioning new cards. A joint effort by the Cooperatives, Revenue and Tamil Nadu Civil Supply Corporation would go a long way in ensuring prompt distribution of essential commodities. Mr. Shanmugam pointed out that the officials should create awareness among the ration card-holders about the availability of special public distribution system under which the ration shops marketed chilly powder, pulses and other provisions. Explaining the menace caused by the bogus cards, he directed the officials to keep a strict vigil on bogus cards and take periodical action for its seizure for achieving the desired goals of public distribution system. Mr. Shanmugam also advised the officials to maintain courtesy in their service to the members of the public. Earlier, the officials conducted surprise inspection at several fair price shops in parts of the district. Mr. Shanmugam inspected the shops in Kunnadarkovil and Adhanakottai; Commissioner for Food Supply K. Rajaram inspected a few shops in Manamelkudi and Avudaiyarkovil; while Additional Registrar (Consumer) K. Balachandran verified the stock and distribution of essential commodities in Aranthangi and Manmelkudi. Several teams of officials from the Department of Food Supply, Revenue and Cooperative Department conducted inspection at rural fair price shops, godowns and other places in all the 11 taluks in the district. Collector Reeta Harish Thakkar; District Revenue Officer K. Mahendravel, District Supply Officer A. Azhagirisamy, Senior Regional Manager, Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation, S. Chandramohan and Joint Registrar of Cooperatives M. Pazhanivel were present.
