Petition seeking patta for school submitted

Staff Reporter

KRISHNAGIRI: Collector V.K. Shanmugam has ordered not to allow sports tournaments organised by private organisations on the Government Girls Higher Secondary School premises in Bargur.

He visited the school on Friday to inaugurate the government’s eye screening camp for children studying in Std VI to Std. VIII.

A group of senior students surrounded T. Senguttuvan, MLA, who attended the function and gave a petition seeking patta to the school, which was inaugurated in 1959. Mr. Senguttuvan handover the petition to the Collector, who immediately issued necessary orders to the Chief Education Officer, M. Baskaran.

When contacted, Mr. Senguttuvan told ‘The Hindu’ that the issue would taken up with the district administration and solved amicably. He said the authorities were asked to write a letter to a private association not to conduct volleyball tournament within the school campus.

The students also mentioned in their petition that they were ‘eve-teased’ by the people who thronged the ground during the annual State-level volleyball tournament conducted by a local association.
