HYDERABAD: Union Minister of State for Textiles Panabaka Lakshmi on Friday announced that the Centre was in the process of putting together an integrated package to help improve the lot of weavers and artisans. Speaking to presspersons on her first visit here after assuming charge as Minister, she said she would accord priority in assisting weavers and artisans of her constituency (Bapatla) and the State. “We are chalking out plans to showcase the exclusive nature of our textiles, handicrafts and artefacts - be it the Dharmavaram or Pochampally sarees or Kondapalli toys and other such items,” she said. About 60 per cent of the weavers and artisans in the State were already identified and once the census was completed, the next stage would be issuing identity cards to them, based on which other financial assistance packages would be made available to them, she said.
