DEC tablet distribution

Staff Reporter

ARIYALUR: A total of 6.5 lakh people in the district will be supplied with di-ethyl carbamazine citrate (DEC) tablets in the district as part of the lymphatic filariasis control measure on June 7.

3,100 volunteers

A total of 3,100 volunteers comprising employees of Public Health department, Anganwadi workers, members of women self help groups and staff of non-government organisations will be involved in the exercise of distributing the tablets at the doorsteps of residents.

Albendazole tablets would also be distributed.

In a statement issued here today, Collector Anil Meshram said that the DEC tablets would cause no side-effect, and called upon all people up to sixty years of age, barring children below two years, pregnant women, and those suffering from ailments, to make use of the opportunity to prevent transmission of the disease.

Dosage

One tablet each of DEC and Albendazole for children in the age group of two to five years; two DEC tablets and one Albendazole tablet for those between six and 14 years; and three DEC tablets and one Albendazole tablet for people of 15 to 60 years of age. The tablets should be taken in a single dose.
