CEO for greener school campuses

Staff Reporter

Tiruvannamalai: Chief Educational Officer S. Ashokan has expressed the hope to make all school campuses in Tiruvannamalai district ‘green campuses’ with the help of members of Green Brigades and National Service Scheme units.

He was addressing World Environmental Day celebrations organised by Exnora at Danish Mission Higher Secondary School here on Friday.

Mr. Ashokan said that there were about 150 green brigade units among students of Tiruvannamalai Educational District and 100 units among students of Cheyyar Educational District. “If we combine this force with NSS members, we can easily transform all school campuses into green campuses” he said.

Mr. Ashokan also gave away a cash prize to V. Govarthana, a visually challenged student of Danish Mission School, who was State topper in history in Plus-Two examination.

District Forest Officer R. Rajendran said that students had a major role in achieving 33 per cent forest cover in the nation. Exnora State secretary P. Indirarajan presided over the celebrations.

District Educational Officer M. Vijayakumari and Headmaster of Danish Mission School V. Alfred were present. K.R. Durai, district director of Exnora, supplied saplings that were planted on the occasion.
