‘Kannoli Kappom Thittam’ launched

KRISHNAGIRI: An eye screening camp launched to mark the 86th birth day of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, called ‘Chief Minister Dr. Kalaignar Pallichirar Kannoli Kappom Thittam’ was inaugurated by Collector V.K. Shanmugam at the Bargur Government Girls Higher Secondary School here on Friday.

A sum of Rs. 24 lakh was sanctioned for this project for Krishnagiri district.

Students studying in Standards 6 to 8 will be screened and given free spectacles before September 15 under this scheme.

Paramedical ophthalmic specialists would offer training to about 325 teachers from different parts of the district on how to screen students.

Thereafter, teachers themselves would screen the students and recommend treatment and spectacles.

T. Senguttuvan, Krishnagiri M.L.A. who spoke at the function hinted that a new Mediclaim scheme for the public to enable them to take treatment up to Rs. 1 lakh free of cost would be announced by the government next month.

Under this scheme, the government would bear the cost of the insurance premium.

Dr. Kanchana Kamalanathan, State Backward Class Welfare Board Member demanded a new building for the Bargur Primary Health Centre, which was constructed during 1956.

She urged Mr. Senguttuvan to take up the issue with the State Health Minister and get the project sanctioned as early as possible.

She said that the buildings of the primary health centre were in a dilapidated condition.

The Collector distributed Rs. 6,000 each to 500 women under the Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Pre- and Post-natal Care Scheme.

Assistance was also distributed to K. Sonia (13), daughter of Kamalanathan, Paraiyur near Emakkalnatham near Krishnagiri and R. Sarath Kumar (8), son of Raman, Sembadamuhu near Krishnagiri, for heart operation under the State Government’s ‘Ilam Chirar Irudaya Padhukappu Thittam’.

Deputy Director (Health) A. Ganesan explained the scheme.

Joint Director (Health Services) V. Devaraj, Chief Educational Officer M. Baskaran, District Panchayat Chairman M.R. Rajendran, Bargur Panchayat Union Chairman V.G. Rajendran, Bargur Town Panchayat Chairman Senthamarai Balan participated in the function.
