Cuddalore
CUDDALORE: Tricksters from Cuddalore on Wednesday cheated a scrap merchant at Thavalakuppam in the Union Territory of Puducherry to the tune of Rs 3.5 lakh. The police said that a couple of days ago, Kumar approached scrap merchant Sivakumar stating that discarded materials stockpiled in the Cuddalore Collectorate complex were up for sale. It could be worth several lakhs of rupees. Kumar claimed that as he was occupying an important position in the Collectorate and could procure the materials for Rs 3.5 lakh, for a commission. To convince Sivakumar, he took him to the Collectorate on the pretext of meeting the Collector. But on reaching Cuddalore, he came up with an excuse that the Collector was attending an important meeting. On Wednesday, Kumar called on Sivakumar and told him that if he could immediately bring the money, the deal could be clinched. Sivakumar sent a sum of Rs. 3.5 lakh through his assistant Ganesh. At the entrance of the Collectorate, Kumar introduced another “officer” to Ganesh. They convinced Ganesh to part with the money on the promise of getting him receipts. After a long and wait, Ganesh found out tha they had been tricked.
