CHENNAI: A woman, who took commission from a doctor promising to arrange a loan of Rs.1,000 crore for the construction of a hospital and later cheated her, was arrested by the Central Crime Branch police here on Tuesday. According to a release, Mayaram (57) of Mayaram Consultants of Kottivakkam had told Chitra, a medical practitioner, that a France-based trust had deposited Rs.55,000 crore in a bank at Delhi and that the money would be given to those seeking loan for hospital or windmill projects. She also told the doctor that the loan amount need not be repaid. Dr. Chitra gave a commission of Rs.1.13 crore to Mayaram. The accused neither arranged the loan nor refunded the commission. Dr. Chitra lodged a complaint with the Commissioner of Police. Mayaram who was absconding for about two years was arrested in Coimbatore. Two cars, Rs. 50,000 in cash and a computer were seized from her. The accused was produced in a court in Poonamallee and remanded to judicial custody.
