Long-live: DMK cadres dress up a roadside wall commending Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi’s vivacity despite attaining 86 years. TIRUCHI: The cadres of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) celebrated the 86 th birth day of the Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi by distributing sweets, organising poor feeding etc in various parts of the district. This year’s celebrations brought additional joy for the DMK cadres, as the party had put up an impressive show in the recent Lok Sabha elections, belying the predication of many pollsters. The Tiruchi district unit of the party had displayed colourful wall graffiti eulogising their leader using various eye-catching epithets. ‘Agavai 86; Aatralo 26; Tamizh Kakkam Thalaivar Yenrum 16’ (his age is 86, in terms of efficiency he is just 26; this saviour of Tamil is always 16) said a wall writing on the Pattabiraman Pillai road. Other wall writings termed his as ‘living Periyar’, ‘Tamizhe’, ‘Ainthamizh Vithagar’ etc. The cadres distributed sweets to the people travelling in buses. Another section of the DMK volunteers provided lunch to the inmates of the Home for the Visually Challenged at Melapudur. Poor feeding was organised.
