“Save water resources from pollution”

Staff Reporter

TIRUCHI: The Tamil Nadu Makkal Nala Eyyakkangalin Koottamaippu, Tiruchi has appealed to the new Union government to protect the country’s water resources from pollution and encroachment.

It has appealed to the Centre to have a national water network system at the district, state and zonal levels connecting local rivers, tanks and all other water sources.

The country’s crop area had to be stabilised to check the decreasing trend of cultivation area and agricultural productivity, the Koottamaippu’s coordinator N. Ramakrishnan said in a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister.

The body also wanted the Centre to control the rising prices of essential commodities such as rice, pulses, edible oils and cooking gas besides providing clean drinking water, sanitation and appropriate medical health services for every village.

It also urged the government to create large scale employment programme to change the poverty situation and coordinate with all political parties and social organisations to tackle corruption and administrative irregularities.

He said the organisation had collected views, expectations and demands from the public for the consideration of the new government.
