Chopped down: Students and staff members of Indian Institute of Science protesting against tree-felling at C.N.R. Rao Circle in Bangalore on Saturday.

Bangalore: Members of Hasiru Usiru and students from the IISc., who call themselves Green Gang, protested against tree-felling at C.N.R. Rao Circle on Saturday. “The BBMP has planned to chop around 120 trees and have already cut down 30 at CNR Rao Circle for the construction of an underpass. They have not taken public opinion or even put the plan on display,” said Vinay Sreenivas of Hasiru Usiru.

The protesters held placards that read “Save Bangalore’s lungs! Save our trees and parks”, “Do not rip our garden city” and “If we do not save our trees and children, who will?” “It is unfair that trees, some of them 40 years old, are being felled for a temporary traffic solution,” said Mahua Bhara of Green Gang.
