NTR Jr. wants youth to be given their due

Emphasis on infusing fresh blood into TDP to sustain it

HYDERABAD: Much like his action-packed campaign for the elections, Telugu film star NTR Junior electrified the otherwise drab proceedings on the second day of the Mahanadu by his speech demanding adequate representation to youth.

In his brief speech that evoked thunderous applause from the cadre but caused embarrassment to senior leaders on the dais, he emphasised on infusing fresh blood into the party to sustain it. “It should be a blend of experience and youth.”

But what raised the eyebrows was his comment while walking across the dais that he was prepared to sacrifice his life for the party’s sake and take up whatever job was assigned to him by the party. It led to instant speculation of whether he was keen on playing a role in party affairs.

Morale-booster

The actor appealed to the cadre not to get disappointed by the defeat in the elections, saying winning and losing were part of the battle. Amid applause, he went on to cite the examples of how Abraham Lincoln lost several times before he became the President of the United States of America, while South African freedom fighter Nelson Mandela had to spend a long time in jail before returning to power.

Senior leader Yanamala Ramakrishnudu too rooted for youth and wanted the party to replicate what NTR did in 1982 when he formed the party, attracting young post-graduates, doctors and lawyers from different social backgrounds.

Responding to these observations, party president N. Chandrababu Naidu said henceforth 40 to 50 per cent of the party posts would be given to youth even giving due weightage to social justice.
