With the induction of 59 Ministers on Thursday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has successfully completed the complex task of ministry formation. However, one is appalled at the gigantic team that has assumed office. At a time when the country is passing through a severe economic recession, the formation of a jumbo Ministry in order to placate the UPA allies defies logic and reasoning. B. Suresh Kumar, Coimbatore In a parliamentary system, the formation of the Council of Ministers is the Prime Minister’s prerogative. But Dr. Singh has come under pressure from the UPA allies not only with respect to the number of Ministries but also with regard to the distribution of portfolios.The strength of the Council of Ministers should be fixed and alliance partners allotted ministerial berths in proportion to the seats won by them.
