A train that was set on fire by demonstrators in Jalandhar on Monday. NEW DELHI: Movement of trains was affected on a major scale with trains being torched in violence that erupted in Punjab on Monday in the wake of the killing of a Dera chief in a shooting incident in Vienna. As a precautionary measure, the Northern Railway cancelled several trains besides regulating and partially cancelling many others in view of the agitation across Punjab. Three coaches of the Kanyakumari-Jammu Tawi Express were burnt near Jalandhar and the engine of Sonepur-Jammu Tawi Mour Dwaj Express was set ablaze in Phagwara. The agitating mobs first saw to it that the passengers and the driver vacated the trains before setting them on fire. The Jalandhar-Amritsar route was badly affected with the demonstrators blocking the tracks. The agitators held up at least 11 trains, including long-distance trains, at various places. The Northern Railway has set up helplines at Ludhiana, Jalandhar city, Jalandhar Cantonment, Amritsar, Pathankot, Ferozepur and Jammu Tawi.
