Chennai-bound plane lands in Mumbai

Staff Reporter

Mumbai: Passengers on a Chennai-bound flight from Oman were stranded at the airport here for the better part of Monday after their flight had to make an emergency landing because of security concerns.

Oman Air’s Muscat-Chennai direct flight WY857, carrying 140 passengers, landed at 1.16 p.m. after a suspicious object was reportedly found on the aircraft, a spokesperson of the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) told The Hindu.

The travellers were put up at the airport’s terminal building. No other flight could be arranged for them and Oman Air does not operate flights stationed at the Mumbai airport.

The combing operation by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) concluded by evening and the passengers were slated to board the flight at 10 p.m. There was no confirmation on what the suspicious object was. Both the CISF and Oman Air refused to comment.
