Education fair to be held at Gorky Bhavan today. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Aviation freaks, take note. Here is your chance to study in one of the world’s premier aviation institutions that has churned out the maximum number of cosmonauts in the world. The Moscow Aviation Institute is among the 10 higher education institutions participating in the educational fair ‘Higher Education in Russia’ organised by the Russian Culture Centre in the city on Tuesday. This is the first such educational fair being organised by the Russian Culture Centre in the city. A high-level delegation comprising heads of departments and deans of internationally renowned educational institutions like Moscow Medical Academy, Moscow Power Engineering Institute and Moscow Aviation Institute will participate in the fair and the seminar being held in connection with it. “Russia is becoming a prominent destination for foreign students, especially Indians. Russian universities have introduced attractive schemes to attract Indian students. The medium of instruction has been changed from Russian to English in leading medical and engineering colleges,” said Ratheesh C. Nair, Honorary Consul of Russia to India and Director of the Russian Cultural Centre, here. Students who have completed Plus Two can participate in the fair. Colleges will offer spot admission based on the marks of the students in the qualifying examination. “All the colleges participating in this fair are State-run and all the medical colleges are approved by the Medical Council of India. The fee is less compared to other foreign universities. Major nationalised banks in India provide educational loans for students opting for these colleges,” said Ravi Chandran of ‘Study Abroad,’ an organisation working in association with the Cultural Department of the Russian Embassy. Hostel facilities for foreign students, Indian canteens on campuses with high number of Indian students, wi-fi internet connection and sports and recreational facilities are the other facilities on offer. “Many colleges have cricket teams, although cricket is not a leading sport in Russia,” Mr. Chandran said. He added that aspirants would also get an opportunity to interact with former students of Russian universities at the fair. The fair will remain open from 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday at Gorky Bhavan, Vanross Jn. For details contact Ph. No. 2338399. A similar fair will also be held at Kochi on May 27.
