In disarray: The water pipeline from the Kundamankadavu pumping station that sagged on Monday when the earth below it was washed away in rain. A trench was dug around the pipe to make a storm water drain. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Supply of piped drinking water to areas coming under the PTP division of the Kerala Water Authority was disrupted from 10 p.m. on Sunday following dislocation of some sections of a main distribution pipeline in the Kundamankadavu-Valiavila road. Portions of the 300-mm line sagged and got dislocated when the earth underneath was washed away in heavy rain on Sunday night. A trench had been dug under the pipelines, about 15 days ago, for laying a storm water drain conduit under the KSUDP programme. The conduit is yet to be laid. Local people, who noticed water gushing out of the line, informed KWA officials who promptly shut off a control valve near the pump house at Kundamankadavu. A 400-mm pumping main line passing beneath the damaged line was also shut off to avoid it from possible damage. Another, 450 mm, pumping main passing nearby remained operational. Repair work on the damaged line began shortly after 10 a.m. on Monday. Pumping was resumed on the 400 mm line by 4 p.m. on Monday. Supply of water in the 300 mm line was restored shortly after 9 p.m. on Monday. The areas that went without water on Monday included PTP Nagar, Vattiyoorkkavu, Kanjirampara, Valiavila, Karamana, Thamalam and Maruthankuzhi.
