Drops of life: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit administering anti-polio drops to a child watched by Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia on Saturday. NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday launched another round of the long-running campaign against polio in the Capital by administering anti-polio drops to a number of children at her Motilal Nehru Place official residence here. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Dikshit said the Government would ensure that no polio virus enters the Capital. Expressing concern over two reported cases of polio in Delhi this year, she said it was due to frequent visits by people from other States. “There have been 49 cases so far this year in the country against 559 reported last year. Of these, 75 were due to P1 virus, whereas in Delhi there were five cases during last year including four due to P1 virus. Parents must come forward and bring their children up to five years of age to the nearest polio booth on Sunday to make the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme a success. It must be ensured that not a single child remains unattended to avoid a break of the chain.” To make a success of the Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme this Sunday, the State Government has made elaborate arrangements to administer anti-polio drops to children and undertake a week-long house-to-house search and immunisation activity. It is expected that more than 25 lakh children will be immunised and more than 48.3 lakh households will be visited. Arrangements have also been made at transit points like railway stations, inter-State bus terminals, Delhi Metro railway stations, check-posts at major road entry points, gurdwaras and Delhi Zoo to cover families in transit. Apart from this, wide publicity has also been done through banners, posters, hoardings, big balloons, electronic and print media.
