Durban: Cricket South Africa, on Saturday, decided to introduce a six-month long cooling off period for rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL) players to pave their return to the mainstream. The six-month period starts from the player’s last appearance in the ICL provided he has terminated his ICL contract and franchises will be able to sign up players in terms of the current Memorandum of Understanding or on a pay-to-play basis. The players must terminate their contracts by May 31 if they wish to play in next year’s Champions League or Indian Premier League. In its board meeting, CSA considered the position of its ICL players and officials who have indicated their desire to return to official cricket under the auspices of International Cricket Council (ICC). The ICC has recommended that there should be a cooling off period between the termination of the ICL contract and the resumption of official cricket. — PTI
